School Chaplaincy during pandemic leads to a call to ministry

Eleanor Morrison will be ordained in June become Assistant Curate at St Faith’s Church Gaywood in King’s Lynn. This is Eleanor’s story of her journey of faith and ordination.

What did your journey to faith look like?

I came to faith when I was still at primary school. It was a combination of girlguiding and girls brigade and Sunday school and I was baptised at my local methodist church when I was 10 years old.

What was your route to ministry?

I probably first felt a call to ministry as a teenager but that was in the early 90s and I dismissed it because I couldn’t really see myself in it. In later years, I was working as a youth mentor in a secondary school and I sensed a call to set up a chaplaincy there, it was during the pandemic and while exploring vocations and thinking about how I might do that, it became quite clear to me that I was being called to train to become a priest.

What are you looking forward to in your new role?

I’m really looking forward to joining colleagues in King’s Lynn and getting to know the area, getting to know the community and being part of a growing team in the town.

What advice would you give to others exploring a vocation to ministry?

If you feel called to a vocation in ministry, my advice first of all would be to pray about it and speak to a priest. Most importantly, give yourself to the process as yourself. Fully be yourself and see what happens.
