Thousands of people gathered in Magdalen Square, Gorleston, for Summer on the Mag, the annual community festival organised by St Mary Magdalene Church.
The free event brought together families and neighbours from across the area for an afternoon of live music, activities and entertainment in the early summer sunshine. Attractions included inflatables, giant games, face painting, magic shows, karaoke and a teddy zip wire from the church tower, alongside aerial performances and refreshments.
A popular feature of the day was the return of Pakefield Pastures Mobile Care Farm. Visitors met a range of animals, with children able to stroke smaller animals and take part in alpaca walks around the square.
More than 30 volunteers from the church helped to plan and run the event, supported by local businesses, performers and community organisations.
The Revd Matthew Price, Vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church, said: “One of the greatest joys of the day was seeing so many people enjoying being together. We saw neighbours meeting neighbours, families making memories and children trying new things.
“As a church, we believe that community is a gift from God and that churches should be places of welcome, hospitality and service. Summer on the Mag is one way we seek to put those values into practice.”
Alongside the activities, visitors were invited to donate items for Gorleston Foodbank. Many brought tins and other non-perishable goods to support local families facing hardship.
Matthew added: “It was heartening to see such generosity. As well as enjoying the day, many people chose to give in a way that will support others in our community.”
Now established in the local calendar, Summer on the Mag continues to draw large crowds each year and reflects the church’s work within the parish.
“What stood out throughout the day was the sense of kindness and welcome. People looked out for one another and shared time together. We are very grateful to everyone who volunteered, performed or supported the event, and to all who came along.”
St Mary Magdalene Church runs a range of activities during the year, including support for Gorleston Foodbank, a community lunch club, groups for children and young people, and work with older and vulnerable residents.
