A Norfolk man has abseiled down the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower in London’s Olympic Park to raise money for the King’s Lynn Night Shelter. The tower is the UK’s highest freefall abseil in the country.
Martin Bowden says;
“The day was absolutely fantastic, although the tower looked significantly taller in real life than in pictures. I have to admit the nerves were really kicking in at the top, but as I had given my word, there was no backing out. Getting over the edge was the hardest part, but once over, the drop was absolutely amazing.”
Martin has personally benefited from the support of staff at the King’s Lynn Night Shelter after experiencing homelessness.
“Just before the first lockdown, I was living in my car before I was found by an outreach team who were able to get me into the night shelter before going into emergency accommodation, supported housing and finally to independent living again. I am living proof that it is possible to turn things around and enjoy a good quality of life again.”
