A Norfolk priest has accepted the new role of LGBTQI+ chaplain for the Diocese of Norwich. In line with a number of other dioceses who have made similar appointments, and similar to other chaplaincies to groups of people, this voluntary role aims to provide pastoral support and care, as well as share the love of God in Jesus.

The Revd Canon Christopher Davies who served as Vicar of Wymondham Abbey for 12 years, will take on the new role. Revd Canon Christopher said; “I look forward to offering pastoral care and encouragement to all in the Diocesan LGBTQI+ Community.”

Revd Canon Christopher has previously served as Team Vicar in the Heart of Norfolk benefice, as well as Acting Archdeacon of Lynn. He returned to Wymondham Abbey for 3 years as an interim Priest in Charge before the appointment of Revd Andrew Hammond in 2024.

Any members of worshipping congregations or Christian communities within the Diocese of Norwich who identify as LGBTQI+ are welcome to contact the new chaplain. This includes clergy and laity.

Please email LGBTChaplain@dioceseofnorwich.org in the first instance.
