Music in the Burnhams

Sunday 19 July - Friday 24 July

Music in the Burnhams is launching a new week-long classical music festival from 19–24 July in north-west Norfolk. The event will feature internationally acclaimed musicians performing in local churches including St Mary’s Church in Burnham Market, All Saints Church in Burnham Thorpe, and All Saints Church Sutton cum Ulph (Burnham Market), with some performances recorded for BBC Radio.

Led by Artistic Director Adrian Bradbury, the festival celebrates composer Sir Julius Benedict, aiming to revive interest in his work alongside music by contemporaries such as Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Liszt.

The programme includes:

  • An opening choral evensong (19 July) at St Mary’s Church, Burnham Market
  • Daily talks on Benedict’s life (20–23 July)
  • Lunchtime and evening chamber concerts at All Saints Church, Burnham Thorpe
  • A five-hour “Monster Concert” inspired by Benedict’s original events
  • A closing performance by the London Chamber Orchestra (24 July)

The festival also features renowned soloists, a resident pianist, and guest appearances, alongside a café and themed cocktail bar. Tickets are available online, with talks free to attend.
