God, Time and Stephen Hawking – a talk by The Revd Professor David Wilkinson, FRAS

Saturday 31 October at 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

In the week that Norwich Cathedral hosts the spectacular sound and light experience Time by Luxmuralis, join us for a free thought-provoking talk that bridges cutting-edge cosmology with deep philosophical faith.

In his landmark book A Brief History of Time, Professor Stephen Hawking famously suggested that discovering a complete theory of physics would allow us to “know the mind of God”. Yet, his later work challenged traditional religious frameworks, arguing that because time began with the Big Bang, a Creator simply had no time to exist beforehand.

In this accessible one-hour talk, The Revd Professor David Wilkinson, FRAS breaks down these mind-bending concepts. Armed with the rare perspective of dual doctorates in theoretical astrophysics and systematic theology, Prof Wilkinson moves beyond the tired “science versus religion” conflict. He will explore how Hawking’s insights into quantum gravity and the multiverse actually open up a much richer, deeper conversation about the nature of space, time, and existence.

This talk requires no prior background in science or philosophy. It offers an accessible, thought-provoking opportunity for the curious, the scientific, and the spiritual alike.

This talk is free to attend but tickets should be booked in advance.
