The Diocese of Norwich is delighted to announce that Andy Sexton will be joining us as our new Strategic Programme Manager in April 2025 on a two-year contract which is half-funded by the national Church of England. Andy will be responsible for managing the programmes we currently have encouraging work with children and young people, exploring new ways of connecting with people and helping parishes to be more missional.

Part of his role will be listening well to what is already working in Norfolk and Waveney and exploring new ways of sharing that good practice while ensuring that we manage our resources well and responsibly. He will also play a key role in shaping our Diocesan Strategy as it emerges over the next months.

Tim Sweeting, the Diocesan Secretary, said;

“Andy joins at an exciting time where we are developing plans that we pray will enable the local church to make an even more significant difference in years to come. To this, he brings a strong track record of managing projects that deliver real community change, in Norfolk and around the world. Allied with his passion for seeing the local church thrive, this fantastic experience will really help us deliver impact through long-lasting partnerships with local parishes and diocesan colleagues.”

After many years of working in international development based in different countries in Africa, Andy did a Masters in Intercultural Studies in the USA, at Fuller Seminary, with classes at the Marshall School of Business. In 2010 he moved with his family to the UK and took on the role of Associate International Director at Oasis.

For the past 9 years, Andy has worked in Norfolk. First with Norwich School, then with refugees, before becoming CEO of the East of England charity the Matthew Project. More recently Andy has been working for a fixed term with South Norfolk and Broadland Councils, supporting community-led projects with funding and leading on other strategic programmes.

Andy says,

“It is a real privilege to be involved in supporting the Church of England in Norfolk and Waveney to develop and resource its strategy. I am excited to be joining Tim, Richard and the Mission and Ministry team at the Diocese of Norwich, as we seek to support the Church to join with God’s mission for this place.”
