On Good Friday, ‘Walks of Witness’ take place across Norfolk and Waveney. Among those taking part this year are churches in and around Aylsham and district.

Walks of Witness see church goers come together to walk through their parish, village, town or city, sometimes holding a cross, to take the message of Jesus out onto the streets during Holy Week and be a witness to others.

Good Friday, the Christian holy day commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday, is a day of mourning and reflection.

The 2025 Walk of Witness for those within the Aylsham area will journey past churches in the Western group of parishes, which include Aldborough, Cawston, Haveringland, Heydon, Itteringham, Little Barningham, Oulton, Sustead and Wickmere.

Revd Andrew Whitehead is Team Vicar for the Western parishes of the Aylsham and District Team Ministry. He says:

“There are two routes to choose from, a northern leg or a southern leg

Each group will carry a wooden cross. There will be short reflections at each church stop, following the pattern of the ‘Stations of the Cross’ which is based on the final journey of Jesus to the cross.

We welcome people to join in, either all of part of the route and dogs are very welcome too.”

The northern leg starts at 8.30am at Sustead Church (NR11 8RU). The southern leg starts at Haveringland Church at 8.30am. The route is just over 9 miles and will end at the Congregational Chapel in Oulton, with refreshments offered.
