The Horstead Centre takes full advantage of its wonderful setting. The house and gardens nestle amongst woodland which stretches down to our new staithe on the River Bure. Just like Ratty and Mole you can spend some quality time together on the water, with laugh-out-loud enjoyment as you delight in building rafts, canoeing, or learning to balance on our Stand-Up Paddleboards.
The Revd Julia Chamberlin attended a Clergy Family Day in 2023 at The Horstead Centre. Speaking of her experience she said: “The canoeing was amazing, the silence of the water, apart from the plopping of the paddles, brought such an atmosphere of peace as we glided past chattering birds, statuesque herons, and the chugging of the passing trains from the Bure Railway.”
As well as the river, there are our on-site activities including archery and caving, rock climbing and the zipline. Or you could try some of our new activities for 2024: Orienteering, geocaching, and the Trebuchet Challenge.
At Horstead, we’re committed to working in unison with the natural environment. We can help you unwind as you study Environmental Art, learn about food foraging, or simply enjoy a campfire under the stars.
We also believe that adventure with friends and family should be accessible and so, to alleviate the worst effects of the cost-of-living crisis, the Centre has kept prices low and minimum numbers as flexible as possible for families and groups. A stay here may be more affordable than you think.
To save further, you could choose to cook for yourselves on an open campfire or in our fully equipped kitchen. Alternatively, to take the hassle out, you can opt for full-board and let us cook for you. We provide superb, home-cooked food from locally sourced ingredients.
