Hospitality and Operations Assistant (6-month contract)

The Julian Shrine is seeking a proactive, organised and customer-focussed Hospitality and Operations Assistant to join the staff team at the Julian Shrine in Norwich. Day to day you will support the smooth operation of All Hallows Guesthouse retreat and the running of the visitor centre and gift shop at the Julian Centre next door.

You will play a key role in delivering exceptional hospitality to visitors, overnight guests and pilgrims to the Julian Shrine, a place of international significance and an important part of the heritage of the city of Norwich. With our Hospitality Manager you will ensure a warm welcome for visitors at reception, offering helpful and articulate communication by phone, email or face to face, as well as handling check-ins and check-outs. Working with our housekeeper, you will ensure that our facilities remain clean, welcoming and safe spaces. During holiday cover, sick leave and staff days off you will be responsible for the wellbeing of our guests and volunteers, ensuring a friendly staff presence is available for support when needed. You will also support the developing annual programme of events at the Julian Shrine, and join in with team tasks as necessary

Day to day tasks vary surprisingly, including making beds and turning over rooms to cleaning showers and toilets, operating the till system, handling card and cash transactions at the gift shop, offering IT support to volunteers, and welcoming overnight guests at check-in.

Applications must be received no later than 23 September 2026.  Interviews will take place on 25 September.  It is expected that the post-holder will commence their role on 5 Octoberor as soon as possible thereafter.

Though this position is for a six-month contract, the charity is intending to conduct a recruitment exercise for a permanent position during the course of the winter, and the holder of this post will be welcome to apply for that role if wished.

The post is for 35 hours a week at a salary of £28,000 per annum.
