Rector Briston and Briningham benefice

The PCC have designed a digital benefice profile, please see the full profile here: The Briston and Briningham Benefice — Parish Profile 2026

The foundations are firm. The future is ours to shape.

Ten churches, nine villages and a shared desire to grow in faith and serve our communities. Could you be the Rector who helps us take our next steps together?

Situated south of Holt, within easy reach of the North Norfolk coast, the Briston and Briningham Benefice brings together welcoming communities, distinctive rural churches and people with energy, commitment and ideas. Formed from two benefices in 2022, we have made real progress towards becoming one family of faith, while valuing the character of each parish.

There is much to build on. The Melton Pot community café, Monday Hub Club and Twin Tracks Community Choir bring people together. Established relationships with Astley Primary School and an independent local nursery create opportunities for ministry with children and families. Ambitious church restoration plans reflect our determination to keep our buildings at the heart of community life.

We are praying for a Rector who will

  • Be a visible, approachable pastor, rooted in prayer and willing to put roots down in the benefice
  • Work together with the PCCs in shared commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and people of all racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Help the nine villages and ten churches grow together in faith, purpose and mission
  • Value traditional worship while encouraging thoughtful, creative approaches that welcome new people, starting a new worshipping community in the first 3 years
  • Grow our mission and community presence, including building on the Melton Pot Café, the Monday Hub, our school links and the building project at Briston
  • Nurture our links with children, families and the wider community
  • Encourage and equip churchwardens, PCCs, the ministry team and volunteers sharing leadership and responsibility
  • Represent the benefice within the Archdeaconry and Diocese, and engaging constructively in wider diocesan life

We offer

  • An experienced ministry team, committed churchwardens and volunteers, and dedicated administrative support.
  • Established community projects and genuine opportunities to develop mission and discipleship.
  • PCCs and project groups taking responsibility for building and restoration work, enabling the Rector to give priority to people and pastoral ministry.
  • A modern Rectory in Briston, with solar panels, which the Diocese is refurbishing ahead of the appointment.
  • The support of the Diocese of Norwich and a beautiful part of the country in which to live and serve.

The work of becoming one benefice is not finished, and our financial and practical challenges are real. We are looking for someone who finds that opportunity inspiring: a priest who will listen, encourage and lead us into the next chapter.

“Learn from the past … Do something new … Pass it on.”
