The Mrs R J Colman Trust offer grants or interest-free grants typically ranging from £100 to £12,250 to help retired clergy who have served in the Diocese of Norwich or have had Permission to Officiate, the widowed spouses or surviving civil partners of the above retired clergy, divorced or legally separated spouses or dissolved or legally separated civil partners of Norwich diocesan clergy.

The grants can be given towards repairs to property, replacement of domestic appliances, respite breaks, hospital visiting, mobility or disability assistance. Grants are available for Retreat fees (up to 50%) but excluding travel costs. The trust helps those “in conditions of need, hardship or distress”.

This trust was formed some years ago following a bequest and with the object of assisting retired clergy who had at some time served in the Diocese or who have had permission to officiate here and who might require some financial assistance.

Subsequently the rules were extended and more recently civil partners have been added. We welcome applications from those who are eligible in respect of a grant or an interest free loan. All applications are considered in confidence and we endeavour to help wherever we can. The trustees usually meet four times a year in January, April, July and October but we can always deal with urgent applications.

If you wish to apply or discuss any matter in the first instance please contact our secretary, Helen Grogutt.
