Norwich’s past, present and future was celebrated at a special service at Norwich Cathedral.
Festal Evensong in celebration of the City of Norwich took place on Sunday 21 June, continuing an annual tradition that stretches back through the centuries.
The new Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich, Councillor Karen Davis and Sheriff Dave Shraga, fellow civic dignitaries, community champions and academics gathered for the occasion, along with city’s Snap the Dragon and the Norwich Whifflers who took part in a colourful procession to the Cathedral ahead of the service.
In his sermon, the Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, spoke of how the service was rooted in history but also about looking to the future.
He said: “Once again in this City Service we remind ourselves that we are custodians of Norwich’s past and called to be good ancestors accountable for its future.
We affirm the values that we want to define the life of our city today and in the future, not least the common values of love, hope and compassion.”
The service was sung by Norwich Cathedral Choir and a collection was taken for the 2026-27 civic charity appeal.
