Multifaith roadshow helps to ‘grow interfaith dialogue’ in church schools

Necton Church of England Primary School has played host to the St Philip’s Centre Multi Cultural Roadshow, a pop-up event which saw specially trained volunteers sharing their knowledge of various religions, denominations and belief systems with Key Stage 2 pupils.

Co-ordinated by the St Philip’s Centre, an interfaith organisation based in Leicester, the session invited students to ask questions and engage with items and customs associated with religions including Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, as well as non-religious belief systems such as Humanism.

Chris Allen, RE Adviser for the Diocese of Norwich, said:

“Bringing the St Philip’s Centre Multi Cultural Roadshow to our Diocese is important to engage our pupils in the wide range of beliefs and practices they may encounter in our world.

“The day at Necton was one of several notable highlights of this half term and it enabled pupils to meet people of different faiths and engage with them and ask questions about their practices. This is an excellent way to grow interfaith dialogue in our church schools.”

Opportunities to try on turbans and bindis proved especially popular with pupils, as well as learning about historic musical and pilgrimage traditions kept alive to this day.

The St Philip’s Centre mission is to “encourage children to be confident in their own identities whilst having essential life skills to be able to communicate with people from a wide range of backgrounds”.
