The joyful sounds of the African Choir of Norfolk and African drumming rang out in Norwich Cathedral at a special service of worship to commemorate Black History Month.
The service on 26 October 2025 began with music from the choir before the Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, welcomed the congregation. Revd Canon Karlene Kerr, Rural Dean of Lynn and the Bishop of Norwich Lead on From Lament to Action, then introduced the service. It included the hymns ‘Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine’ ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘How Lovely on the Mountains are the feet of him’.
The sermon was given by The Venerable Dr Chigor Chike, Archdeacon of Lewisham & Greenwich
and Chaplain to His Majesty The King.
The reading was Matthew 5.1-12 and was read by Colin Tomlin, Generous Giving Advisor with the Diocese of Norwich and member of the Racial Justice Action Group. The prayers were led by Elizabeth Humphries, Communications Manager with the Diocese of Norwich, and the Revd Cheryl Ramballi, Associate Priest to the Blofield and Broadside Benefices.
The Bishop of Lynn, the Rt Revd Dr Jane Steen then gave the closing remarks and blessing, before the International Music Group performed African drumming to bring the service to a close.
A truly uplifting and important time of worship together for all who attended.
