Farewell service for Canon Andy following a decade at the heart of Norwich Cathedral

A special service will take place on Sunday to say farewell to the Revd Canon Andy Bryant who has been at the heart of the Norwich Cathedral community for a decade.

Canon Andy is one of the Cathedral’s three Residentiary Canons serving under the Dean of Norwich, and since being installed as the Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care on Palm Sunday in March 2015, he has led the Cathedral’s ministry to visitors, outreach work, and pastoral support for the Cathedral community.

He has also championed high profile projects including the 2021 visit of the Natural History Museum’s Dippy the dinosaur – Dippy on Tour: A Natural History Adventure – and the 2019 Seeing It Different project which saw a helter skelter installed in the Nave to offer people a creative way to view the Cathedral’s medieval roof bosses more closely and encourage people to consider new perspectives.

The Sung Eucharist with a farewell for Canon Andy and his wife Wendy will take place at 10.30am on Sunday 22 June and all are welcome to join the service at the Cathedral or online.

The Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, said:

“Canon Andy has made an outstanding contribution to the life of the Cathedral and its work in the wider community. From pastoral care to preaching to spearheading missional events, Andy has brought huge energy, vision and enthusiasm. We are hugely thankful for the part he and Wendy have played, and wish them well for all the future holds.”

Canon Andy said:

“It has been a great privilege to serve at Norwich Cathedral; it is a wonderful place in which to live and work. I have been enormously grateful for the support I have received from staff, volunteers, the congregation and my amazing clergy colleagues. I leave taking with me many, many special memories.”

Canon Andy was ordained in 1983 and, before his role at Norwich Cathedral, he served in the dioceses of Lichfield, Guildford and Bath and Wells, working in a variety of different settings.

Following his retirement, Canon Andy and his wife Wendy will be moving to Salisbury and are looking forward to spending more time with their daughter and her family.

The Sung Eucharist with a farewell for Canon Andy and his wife Wendy will take place at 10.30am on Sunday 22 June at Norwich Cathedral.

The service will also be available to watch online at www.cathedral.org.uk/livestream and via the Norwich Cathedral Services YouTube Channel.
