My name is Liz and I am the Communications Manager at the Diocese of Norwich.
I love writing, meeting people and telling their stories which led me to a career in journalism followed by communication roles. I was also brought up in a Christian home and baptised as a teenager, so this particular job, working in Communications for the Church of England, is a real vocation for me.
I really enjoy meeting people in parishes and celebrating the voluntary work they do. There are so many people who dedicate themselves to church communities because of their faith, and because they care. These are the ones who don’t often like blowing their own trumpets and so it’s my privilege to do it for them.
I pursued a degree in broadcast journalism in the 90s and spent ten years working for a mix of radio and television newsrooms. This was a memorable and challenging time when I found that rooting myself in a strong and supportive church environment really helped me.
I have many favourite bible stories over the years. One that resonates with me most recently is in Mark chapter 5 verse 41, when Jesus is with Jairus’ daughter. He took her by the hand and said ‘Talita Koum’ which means ‘get up little girl ‘or arise little girl’. This was so helpful to me during the pandemic and in difficult situations since. It’s full of compassion and love and sums up my faith and trust in Jesus, that he will always be there to help me up again. She didn’t have to be strong by herself, Jesus took her by the hand.
