The three talented musicians all hail from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, which, like Music in Country Churches, is a patronage of His Majesty The King.

José Matias, a talented violinist from Portugal, is carving his path in the vibrant world of classical music. In 2024, José gave his debut with the English Chamber Orchestra in the Music in Country Churches Festival, performing Strauss’ Violin Concerto.

José’s orchestral experience spans across renowned orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Carmarthenshire-born baritone Owain Rowlands is an Associate Artist with the Welsh National Opera for the 2025/2026 season, where he has performed and covered roles in productions including ToscaCandideBlaze of GloryThe Flying Dutchman, and others.

Rebecca Selley studied piano and piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music in London, where she won the John Ireland Prize for Accompanists. Rebecca works as the String Department accompanist and coach at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and also as an accompanist for BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera.

Sounds Historical are a specialist early music ensemble. Their repertoire spans the medieval to the 18th century – performing on an exciting array of period instruments including viols, recorders, theorbo, flutes, lutes and more! Each member of the group performs and records with a wide variety of early music groups such as La Serenissima, Chelys, Fiori Musicali, and the Linarol consort, and all are passionate about their work in music education.
