Tributes to Hannah Cain, GP and church parishioner in Dersingham

A church community in Norfolk and people in the surrounding villages have been left devastated after the death of a well known and loved local GP.

Hannah Cain was found at a property in Fern Hill in Dersingham on Sunday 4 October. The 45 year old was part of the parish church family in Dersingham.

Hannah has been described by her family as ‘kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend.’ Her family released a statement via Norfolk police which said “we are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients who knew her as Dr Terry.”

Revd Mark Capron, Rector of the Dersingham benefice knew Hannah and her family well and has paid his own tribute to Hannah.

“Hannah was a well loved and respected member of our community here in Dersingham, as well as the local area. She will be greatly missed for the care she offered. Hannah was a valued member of both our church family and this village. The light of Hannah’s faith in Jesus shines through the darkness, a faith that is not the end, but rather now life eternal. Jesus said: ‘Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted‘ and it is now Hannah’s family we uphold in both prayer and love at this time.“

Revd Mark spoke to BBC news on Wednesday with the permission of Hannah’s family.

“For me, it was her smile. Her smile was radiant. At this time, it’s important for me to support the family, support the church family which Hannah was a part of and the wider community and the church here is a family and to a sense, the village is a family, supporting one another.”

St Nicholas Church in Dersingham is open for anyone who wants space to pray, light a candle or sit quietly and take a prayer card.

Hannah’s husband Mark Cain is due at King’s Lynn Crown Court, charged with her murder. Any enquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to Norfolk Police.
