Are you aged 18-35? Do you know anyone aged 18-35? Would you, or they, enjoy a trip to Taize?
Every year young people from Norfolk join the many thousands of young people from around the world who travel to a monastery in central France for worship, fun, friends and faith.
The annual pilgrimage (by coach and ferry) is led by the Bishop of Norwich and open to young adults living in the Diocese of Norwich.
Booking is now open for the 2026 pilgrimage, from July 18-27. Full details here.
The Taizé style of inspirational contemplative worship was developed by the monks of the community, founded near Cluny in 1940. Today it is home to around 100 monks from Catholic and Protestant traditions around the world – and an ever-changing throng of young pilgrims.
The group from the Diocese of Norwich will stay in tents on the Taizé campsite and take part in community life including worship, Bible studies, discussion groups, shared meals and practical activities. The theme of the teaching at this year’s pilgrimage is “What are you looking for?”
Previous Taize pilgrims from Norfolk and Waveney loved the chance to explore their faith, take part in the famous Taizé chants and musical prayers, find time to slow down and reflect, and meet and worship with people from around the world.
Bishop Graham said: “The life of simplicity and prayer of the brothers of Taizé, including their unique style of worship, has been formative in my own life and I love to be able to take young adults on pilgrimage to share that experience and see how God will shape them through the week.”
Pilgrims will camp alongside others from dioceses around the UK and can use equipment provided by the Diocese of Norwich. They share in the work of the monastic community, including being allocated tasks, which might range from helping to serve meals to being a ‘shhhh-er’ responsible for encouraging silence before worship.
The July 18-27 pilgrimage, including travel from Norwich, food and camping accommodation, will cost £175 for students and those out of work, £275 for part-time or church workers and £380 for people in full-time employment. Bursaries are available for those who need additional help.
Places are subsidised by the Anne French Memorial Trust which supports the ministry of the Bishop of Norwich and projects across Norfolk.
