A Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance on the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe took place on Sunday 11 May.

VE Day and all that was sacrificed throughout the Second World War was remembered at a special service at Norwich Cathedral.

War veterans, serving members of the Armed Forces and civic dignitaries were among those who gathered at the Cathedral for the occasion which began with a parade through the Cathedral Close.

In his welcome, the Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, said:

“We are privileged this afternoon to have amongst us veterans who served during the Second World War.

“Please accept our profound thanks, not only for your presence here today, but also for the service that you, and all those who served with you, gave to this nation and to the world.

“As your lives will have been shaped by your experiences, so our lives and our liberty has been shaped by your generosity and courage.”

The service was sung by Norwich Cathedral Choir with music also provided by the Norwich Citadel Band of the Salvation Army.
