With thanks to Revd Tim Weatherstone for writing this article.

The Barnham Broom and Upper Yare group of parishes was started in 1964 with several parishes around the larger villages of Barnham Broom and Barford, before being completed by the Upper Yare group joining in the early 1980s.

2024 therefore marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the benefice and we were delighted and very grateful to welcome the Bishop of Lynn, Revd Dr Jane Steen to our celebratory eucharist held at St Mary’s church, Cranworth on 2nd June.

Bishop Jane spoke powerfully from 1 Samuel 3 drawing much encouragement for our future with the words: ‘It is the Lord. Let him do what seems good to Him’ (1 Samuel 3:18), urging us to continue to be alert to God’s prompting.

We are grateful to all who contributed including our organist and choir mistress who led our worship so ably, as well as to the many who attended. We were able to enjoy some refreshments afterwards before Bishop Jane and her husband Pip made their way to northern Sweden for ordinations in our link diocese there.
