Hickling Church stages Nativity procession

17 December 2020

The Christmas story was re-enacted in Hickling last Sunday, December 13, with a nativity procession through the village to Hickling Barn.

Despite drizzly cold weather the company gathered at St Mary’s Parish Church with a reading, prayers, and a carol. Led by Mary, played by Caitlin Madden, on her pony, they made their way to the local inn, The Greyhound, where Joseph was told by landlady Debi Key that there was no room!

They found shepherds by the village pond watching over their flocks and ended up at Hickling Barn where they formed a Nativity tableau.

Villagers had been invited to join in, whether or not in costume, to share the Christmas message.

All those taking part sang carols, ate mince pies, and drank mulled wine to warm them all through. As one of the company said, “This is our small way of spreading the good news to 30 or 40 village folk.”
