The Academy had its Ofsted inspection with the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust(DNEAT) in early January.

Interim Headteacher Chris Read said:

“We are extremely pleased that the positive attitudes and hard work of staff have been recognised by this judgement. The children, families, staff, governors and DNEAT have contributed significantly to the improvement made within the school through their hard work and continued support.”

The recent Ofsted report stated: there is “a culture where pupils want to do their best in all respects”. They described the school as “friendly and welcoming” where “teaching and pupils’ work is of a good improving quality across the curriculum”.

Staff and parents are overjoyed that the school has received such a good report and secured the appointment of a permanent headteacher. This allows the school to move forward with confidence.

The report said the school needs to continue to extend the assessment systems already used in English and Maths to other subjects across the curriculum. Some parents felt that they would like more information about what their children are learning so the school is increasing the range of materials that are sent home and published on their website.

The school community is further boosted by the appointment of a permanent headteacher to build on this success. Shannon O’Sullivan will take up her post in April and is looking forward to the challenge:

“I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the Headteacher at Thomas Bullock Academy and equally at joining the DNEAT family of schools. Thomas Bullock has an extremely exciting future, following the fantastic news of a Good Ofsted.”

Oliver Burwood, the Chief Executive of DNEAT said,

“We are delighted for all the children, family, and staff at Thomas Bullock, as well as the wider community of Shipdham. The report highlights how being part of a successful trust can ensure the strong leadership needed to run a successful academy. We are proud of how everyone at the school has responded to the new leadership to deliver an engaging, safe and enjoyable education for the children of Shipdham. With the appointment of a new, permanent, Headteacher the academy can look forward to a very bright future.”
