The sun shines on the Archdeacon’s Charge & Picnic 2018

The queues for the ice-cream were a constant theme at this year’s Archdeacon’s Charge. Held on one of the hottest bank holiday weekends, this year’s event took place at the magnificent Holkham Hall.

Both runners and walkers set off to enjoy the fantastic grounds of Holkham Hall, whilst others preferred to stay around the main marquee and enjoy what was on offer. With a range of activities, stalls and things to see and do, including a fire engine and vintage cars, the day was indeed one to enjoy.

Led by the Revd Clive Wylie, the runners had their own warm up, (including ten press ups!), with Bishop Graham then giving their count down. The walkers had their own separate start and route around the lake.

Helicopter Anglia One of the The East Anglian Air Ambulance flew in at half past twelve to give people the opportunity to have a look and find out more about the important work of the Air Ambulance.

Refreshments were aplenty too with bacon rolls, sausage butties, cakes and drinks for everyone.

With visitors also from Belgium, France, Germany and Holland, it just goes to show how popular this annual event really is!

Diocesan Secretary, Richard Butler, said:

“This was a great opportunity for the Diocesan family to come together for a lovely day out. My thanks goes out to the dedicated Diocesan team who worked hard to put this event together, and without whom it couldn’t have taken place.

“It’s always good and encouraging to see parishes from around the Diocese support and help raise funds for each other and the work of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.”

One of the runners said:

“It was a great event – really enjoyable. The weather was a big bonus too. But I do regret not having one of the bacon rolls as I heard they were superb!”

Another runner wrote in to us to say:

“Just a quick email to say thank you for organising such a lovely event yesterday. Myself and the other members of Runners-next-the-Sea had a great day.”

One of the stall holders in the craft marquee said:

“My thanks to all your wonderful team for a brilliant day yesterday. The atmosphere was lovely, everyone certainly seemed to enjoy the event and you even managed to arrange the weather!”

Event co-ordinator and organiser, Angela George said:

“This was a great opportunity for parishes to work together in the stunning grounds of Holkham Hall. It was great to see so many people at this year’s Charge.

“My thanks goes to the amazing team of people who helped organise and support the day.”

  • Anthony Cude – First place male
