Ordinations “done different” this year

Six people will be ordained Deacons and 15 ordained as Priests over a series of services in different places, mostly between Thursday 6 and Saturday 8 August. Please hold them in your prayers at this time.

One of the three Bishops will be laying hands upon each candidate and cleansing his hands between each one. Music will be played, but singing is not permitted. As inside gatherings are limited to a maximum of 30 people, each candidate is only able to invite 10 members of their friends and family along, so these services will not be open to all. Appropriate physical distancing and handwashing protocols will be followed by all those involved.

We hope to share photos from the different services, so keep an eye on our social media platforms for those. We also hope to live stream as many of the services as we can, so subscribe to our YouTube channel to know when those are available.

Those to be ordained deacon on Thursday 6 August at Norwich Cathedral:

10 am – Coryn Stanforth and Cate Turner with Bishop Graham assisted by Bishop Alan

12 noon – Taylor Wilton-Morgan and Jon Price with Bishop Graham assisted by Bishop Jonathan

3 pm – Michael Hayden and James Cook with Bishop Graham assisted by Archdeacon Karen

Each of the new ordinands has shared a little of their story:

Coryn Stanforth –Tas Valley Team Ministry

“I am a former Norfolk primary school teacher and have just finished two years training at Westcott House, Cambridge. I have been a licensed Reader since 2011, most recently in the Hellesdon benefice. In my spare time, I love travelling, walking, reading and visiting historic places. I can often be found in a café enjoying an espresso or pot of tea!”

Taylor Wilton-Morgan – Thorpe Episcopi

“Hailing from Sussex, I was educated in Scotland, and have trained for the last three years at Westcott House in Cambridge. I am delighted to land here in Norfolk and to begin serving and learning in the parish of Thorpe Episcopi, at a truly extraordinary time for ministry.”

Michael Hayden – Norwich St. Andrew

“Born and raised in Northern Ireland, where the Lord brought me to saving faith at the age of 14, I came over to England at the age of 18 to study theology, and have stuck around ever since. I’ve recently finished training for ministry at Oak Hill College. In my spare time, I can usually be found either with my head in a book or my hands in some bread dough.”

Jon Price – St. John’s King’s Lynn and North Lynn Methodist Church

“I recently finished studying at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford having previously worked for a charity that seeks to help churches house the homeless in Norwich. I enjoy reading and playing the guitar and have been known to swim competitively. I’m married to Vicki and we’re hoping to adopt a dog in the near future!”

Cate Turner – Bramerton Group Ministry (Thurton)

“I am a former HR consultant who trained, part-time, on the Eastern Region Ministerial Course. I have been part of St Peter’s in Sheringham but I will be serving my title at Bramerton (Thurton). I am married with two adult sons, two Labradors, a pushy cat, four chickens and many, many bees.”

James Cook – Eaton St. Andrew

“After studying for a degree in Classics at Oxford University, I remained a student to pursue a doctorate in early Church History, researching the sermons of John Chrysostom. It was during this time that I first sensed a call to ordained ministry, and after completing the DPhil I spent six months working in a church in Manhattan, New York. I’ve just completed three years of ministry training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. I am married to Stephanie, herself a New Yorker and who is a writer and podcast producer.”
