The trio became the St Mark’s mermaids two years ago when they swam the equivalent of the English Channel in their local gym swimming pool. They did this to raise money and awareness for Mission Aviation Fellowship, a Christian organisation which St Mark’s Oulton Broad is partnered with.

The mermaids have done it again by completing a 25 mile swim again in their local pool. This time it was to raise vital funds for the St Luke’s food pantry which the Rev Jo heads up. The food pantry operates from the benefice church St Luke’s in Homefield Avenue Lowestoft weekly and provides local families with the basic essentials at a small cost.

The Revd Jo Fowler said: “We decided to do another sponsored swim but this time to swim the 25 miles from St Luke’s church to Norwich Cathedral. It is a motivational challenge as swimming during the winter can be an effort and this gives us a purpose. It has only taken us around 6 weeks to complete.”

The mermaids have raised nearly £1000 for the food pantry. The generosity of the congregation and the local community has been overwhelming.
