Last week Dickleburgh Church of England Primary School opened a new Peace Garden.
Members of the whole school community including parents, governors, parish councillors and members of the Dickleburgh British Legion were invited to the take part in the official opening and blessing of the new Peace Garden.
In the opening ceremony the Revd Nigel Tuffnell read the St Francis of Assisi prayer before blessing the new peace garden. After the blessing, parents were invited into the hall for tea and cake and a chance to chat and socialise before the end of the school day.
Moira Croskell, Headteacher of Dickleburgh Church of England Primary School said:
“The idea for the Peace Garden came about because we did not have a quiet area for our children to use for reflection as individuals, with friends or as a class.
“We wanted a space that would reflect our school values so after speaking with my staff and our Year 6 Assembly ambassadors we decided on a sensory garden.”
Work on the garden, which is also shared with the Pre-School, started in October. However, thanks to the generosity of parents, The Dickleburgh Ladies Oxlip Group and The Otters Trust, the garden was completed in record time (just in time for the Christmas break) and was fully funded through donations. Headteacher Moira said: “It was truly a whole community project!”
