Rector of Thorpe St Andrew Church Revd James Stewart said:
“The current crisis seems to deepen every day and we can no longer say that we have no cases in Norfolk. Thorpe St Andrew is a big community and we know that there are many who are vulnerable in our community who need our help with the delivery of shopping/medication or just being a sympathetic ear on the telephone. We can’t do it alone but we want to reach out in love and are happy to coordinate a response or help with others – so please message us on Facebook or email us on rector@thorpeparishchurch.org or telephone The Revd James Stewart on 01603 439160 and we will begin to put together a way of helping our most vulnerable at this time.”
It’s important in a safe way to look out for one another. Our prayers are for our whole community and for a hope-filled future.
The original Facebook post of Saturday evening regarding what the community at Thorpe St Andrew is doing reached nearly 19000 people, was shared 64 times and produced over 60 volunteers.
Since then, a Facebook post on the Thorpe St Andrew Church page announced:
“We are pleased to share that our Rector (The Revd James Stewart) attended a meeting of Thorpe St Andrew Town Council last night at which the whole Town’s response to this increasingly worrying crisis was discussed. Working with key partners including ourselves, Broadland Police, Salvation Army and Royal British Legion it was decided that an information leaflet to all residents will be printed as soon as possible. When this is ready it is likely volunteers will be sought to get this delivered very quickly. Our Rector will pass our list of volunteers to the Council, unless he receives any objection. There will be more news later in the week so please look out on Facebook. The Revd James Stewart said, ‘It is important that we show love and respect and care for all the members of our community at this time. I am very pleased that the Town Council are working with us all to ensure that all receive this care in the weeks ahead. A huge thank you to our Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Town Clerk and all councillors and partner organisations for their unswerving commitment to residents. True light in the darkness.'”
