Bishop Graham has written to the Jewish community following the death of Rabbi Lord Sacks

7 November 2020

On hearing of the death of Rabbi Lord Sacks, the Bishop of Norwich has written to the Jewish community in Norfolk and Waveney with his sincerest condolences and prayers.

In his letter on 7 November 2020, he writes:

Shalom friends.

At the end of Shabbat I heard the sad news of the death of Rabbi Lord Sacks and, on behalf of the Christian people of the Diocese of Norwich, I want to assure the Jewish community in Norfolk and Waveney of our prayers at this time of mourning.

Lord Sacks was a giant among us. His contribution to Biblical scholarship and the seeking of wisdom was outstanding. I return again and again to his commentaries on the Pentateuch and his work on living a moral and ethical life. His guidance about leadership has inspired me to live my own responsibilities better. I have learnt much from him and that will long continue.

‎המקום ינחם אתכם בתוך שאר אבלי ציון וירושלים

‎May God comfort you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

With every blessing.
