The academy, part of the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust (DNEAT), raised £110 from the non-uniform day; which will be going towards Kitz4Kidz to help pay to transport all the kind clothing donations to the children in schools in Africa.
Earlier in April, Brisley Primary Academy sent a donation of brand new and second-hand sports hoodies which have arrived in Ghana.
Mr Julian Driver from Kitz4Kidz kept Brisley Primary Academy updated about the long journey of their clothing donation.
Julian said: “There was a bit of a struggle to get the items shipped and this last shipment has cost £1,300. The shipment arrived in Ghana on Monday 26th April. A member of staff travelled for fourteen hours to get to the airport but unfortunately, he was unable to collect the donation as stuck in customs. A few days later I have just heard that Nana, the teacher has travelled 14 hours by bus to the airport to get the items. The children are getting so excited, they cannot wait for his return.”
Mr Jo Kerkham, Head of School at Brisley Church of England Primary Academy said: “The children at Brisley have been very concerned to help raise the money needed to help post clothes to Camp Junction DC Primary in Ghana. The school council have suggested doing a sponsored run or cake sale next. I think it’s great that the children want to make sure children all over the world have opportunities to play sport in a team kit or have warm clothes when they need them.”
Co-founders of Kitz4Kidz, Julian Driver and Mark Meeking said: “First of all, we would just like to say WOW, we’re lost for words over generous gesture and donation. It really does mean a lot for us especially today too as the boxes to Ghana have finally left Norwich and are on their way to the airport as I write this, so your wonderful donation to Nabster Football Club and School should be with them by next week so please let all your parents know to join kitz4kidz on Facebook to see all the pics of smiling children that Brisley Church of England Primary Academy has made possible.
“Nana the teacher messaged me and he said he had been emotional just seeing the children’s faces when they received all of your donations plus other schools items we sent out donated by a lady in Lincoln. I don’t think we realised the difference we were actually making to the school until we saw the pictures for ourselves, life over there is so different to ours it really is. So once again a massive thank you to you all at the school especially Ruth who started all of this. We’ve now been asked to do another school in Ghana so any donations to that school would be much appreciated.”
