Becoming an AWA

What plan does God have for me?

“I began my new spiritual journey towards the end of 2021. At that time was already a lesson reader, a lay intercessor, a sidesman and a chalice assistant.

Having thought about becoming a Reader, I discussed this idea with Patrick Richmond (vicar at Christ Church Eaton). Patrick pointed me in the direction of an Authorised Worship Assistant which would be more suitable for me. This led me to take part in the Diocese of Norwich Shared Vocation Space. I was able to meet with  and listen to a wide range of clergy across the Diocese, each of whom had a different ‘strand’ of experience in their journeys of faith which informed and advanced me in my spiritual journey.

When anyone asks me how or why I made the step to become an Authorised Worship Assistant, my response is that it is a step on my journey of faith. Through prayerful reflection, listening to others talk about their experience of coming to Christ and receiving sound advice from Patrick Richmond and Alistair Bolt (a Reader at Christ Church Eaton) I was able to see a path ahead. Having been involved in different aspects of helping at services , I felt called to deepen my commitment to Christ by entering lay ministry to express my faith.”
