So this has been a six year project, it’s taken a lot of time and a lot of dedication from a small key team. And so here in this church, we’ve managed to bring it back up to life of what is needed with facilities, for worship and also hospitality and welcome.
So we now have a kitchen facility here which is fit for purpose, it blends in with church, which is important and we’ve also taken a step out of the bottom of the church tower and we now have a fully accessible toilet and another toilet and two baby changing facilities, which is just what we need, we have baby and toddler group here every week and Baby Basics, and everything else that goes on, so it’s been a lot of work, but it’s very much worth it, we’re really pleased.
Certainly with what we’ve now got, we can offer more. We needed more baby changing facilities on a Monday morning, we now have two, at certain points they’re both used, and there’s a queue. We’ve started lent lunches and coffee mornings. There’s so much more scope of what is possible with the facilities that we now have, including things like ovens and things like that.
We want to be mission minded, looking out to the church, serving and loving our community and with this, we can now do this.
One of the ways we were able to raise significant funds for this was by being creative and we did two sponsored abseils down our church tower.
It was a wonderful opportunity for people, both in church and out of our church community to come and achieve something very differently, but also for the benefit of the church and the village.
An so we had the two abseils and we raised £25,000 between the two which is a big amount to get the ball rolling.
For me, yes finances were good, but was what amazing were the two community days, seeing people come from around the villages and community come together. We had hundred and hundreds of people
Yes, so be creative is my little top tip.
