Oaths and Declaration made ahead of Petertide services

On 22 June 2026, sixteen people gathered in the garden of the Bishop of Norwich to make the oaths and declaration required before ordination.

The Oath of Allegiance is made to His Majesty King Charles III, his heirs and successors. The Oath of Canonical Obedience is made to the Lord Bishop. A declaration of assent, which is a core legal and spiritual requirement, is made to declare belief in the faith. The oaths and declaration are set out in the Canons of the Church of England and sworn in the presence of the ordaining bishop.

Eight people will be ordained as Deacons and eight ordained as Priests over two services at Norwich Cathedral. Please join us in praying for all those who are to be ordained and their families.
