There are a number of ways to support the mission and ministry of the church across our parishes, and one key avenue is by contributing to sound governance. If you feel called to collaborate, foster open communication, and ensure clarity in decision-making, we encourage you to come forward and offer your time and talents in this important work.
The following elections are now live:
- Vacancy in See – there is one vacancy for a communicant lay person based in the Archdeaconry of Norwich elected by the House of Clergy and the House of Laity of Diocesan Synod.
- Bishop’s Council of Trustees – Members of the House of Laity are invited to elect two lay persons from among their number to serve on the Bishop’s Council of Trustees.
The timetable for the first round of elections is;
- Wednesday 8 July 2026 – Deadline for nominations to be received at Diocesan House.
- Monday 13 July 2026 – Results announced where places are uncontested.
- By Wednesday 15 July 2026 – Ballot papers issued for contested places.
- Wednesday 29 July – Deadline for ballot papers to be received at Diocesan House.
- Friday 31 July – Results of ballots announced.
Please note that following the ratification of the Vacancy in See Committees (Amendment) Regulation 2025, which declares that no more than one person with a “relevant connection” to a particular parish or other worshipping community can be a member of a Vacancy in See Committee, we are unable to accept nominations from those on the following parishes:
Alborough, Aylsham, Badersfield, Blickling, Brampton, Burgh-next-Aylsham, Buxton with Oxnead, Cawston, Great Yarmouth, Haveringland, Hemblington, Heydon, Holt, Itteringham, Lammas, Little Barningham, Little Walsingham, Marsham, Neatishead, North Elmham, Norwich Eaton Christ Church, Norwich New Catton, Norwich New Catton St Luke, Norwich St George Tombland, Norwich St Mary Magdalene, Oulton SS Peter and Paul, Sprowston, Thetford and Wickmere.
These changes came into effect immediately on 14 February 2025 and affect all Vacancy in See elections which have not yet been concluded.
If you would like to put yourself forward for any of the elected vacancies or would like more information on changes to The Vacancy in See Committees Regulation, please email governance@dioceseofnorwich.org to request an election pack/further information of ViS.
Election forms are due to be returned by 8 July 2026.
