The Bishop of Norwich asked questions about the environmental impact of data centres and how the government can rebuild the cross-party consensus on the urgent need to take action on climate change, during questions to ministers in the House of Lords this week.
He also spoke during a debate on the Armed Forces Bill, asking that accommodation, particularly for single people, should be of a suitable standard to ensure the wellbeing and retention of servicemen and women.
Suggesting a series of amendments to the Bill he asked for service police to have the same powers to authorise custody as commanding officers.
After being assured by the Minister of State for Defence, Lord Coaker, that the impact of the potential legislation would be carefully considered during future scrutiny he withdrew the amendments, saying: “The key thing here is around speed and simplicity so there is justice for all and decisions are made in a timely way.”
