DESCRIPTION:Start: Friday 18 September\, 5pm\, St George’s Colegate\, St George’s St\, Norwich NR3 1DA\n\n5pm An introduction to ‘Living by the Rule: Contemporary meets medieval’ by one of the curators\, Dr Ed Krčma.\n6pm Drinks and light buffet supper\, inspired by. St. Hildegard of Bingen’s recipes.\n6.45pm a performance by Vida Vojić ‘Hildegard of Bingen Invocations’\nVida Vojić invokes the spirit of Saint Hildegard\, by singing her medieval chants accompanied by the glass harp\, subtle electronics\, spatial feedback and light design\, in delicate response to the liturgical season. Hildegard of Bingen was a prophetic Benedictine abbess and polymath during the 12th century Roman Germany\, active as a music composer\, preacher\, writer\, theologian\, artist\, playwright\, herbal scientist\, cosmologist and mystic.\n8pm option to join Dr Nicola Simpson’s collaborative performance ‘The Table Poems and musical scores’\n\n_________________________________________________________________________________ \nSaturday 19 September\n\n10am: A visit to ‘Living by the Rule: Contemporary meets medieval’ at the Sainsbury Centre\, UEA\, followed by a discussion of the exhibition;\n12.30pm Lunch at the Sainsbury Centre café\, free time to walk in the campus grounds\n3pm A ‘pilgrimage’ from the Julian Shrine to St John the Baptist\, Timberhill\, and then on to Norwich Cathderal guided by John Maddison.\n5pm Lecture by Blanche Girouard at the Weston Room\, Norwich Cathedral – The Artists’ Gift: how centuries of artists have used the life of Christ in art\nAttendees are asked to purchase their own dinner on Saturday evening. We will select a preferred pub/restaurant.\n\n_________________________________________________________________________________ \nSunday 20 September\nAttendees are invited to join the Eucharist service at St George’s Colegate at 9.30am followed by coffee and a look at the church as the starting point of a tour of Norwich churches and their art and artefacts with the medieval historian and artist John Maddison.
