Are you an experienced communicator with a background in PR?

We are looking for someone to join our team who will lead our communications with the press, in public affairs and with crisis management, in support of our 42 academies across 2 multi academy trusts in Norfolk: DNEAT and St Benet’s.

The contract is for 2 days per week but reactive cover will be needed in the case of emergencies.  Desirable attributes are a background in journalism and experience of the education sector.

The initial contract will be until 31 March 2021. It is possible that the role will become a permanent position after this, and the individual will have the opportunity to help shape this role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Respond to media enquiries, queries and complaints in a timely and effectively manner, researching information where necessary and referring more complex or sensitive issues to the relevant persons.
  • Encourage and support good communication guidance and best practice when working with the press and media, working collaboratively with staff members, officers and academies to ensure that media opportunities are maximised
  • Proactively visit academies, speaking to school leader contacts to discover local stories which can be celebrated and shared across our communications channels
  • Write and send out press releases and statements and organise photo calls when required
  • Organise and support training for nominated School Reporters, enabling them to write news articles and press releases which promote our schools and academies
  • Maintain excellent relationships with local media contacts and journalists
  • Be aware of the national and local news agenda, identifying opportunities or bringing issues to the attention of senior staff as appropriate
  • Write and publish news articles for the website and print publications, and proactively promote them
  • Liaise closely with the Diocese of Norwich’s communications team to ensure press coverage is well timed and to promote schools and academies through the Diocese website, social media, eNews and in publications
  • Keep team members informed of the work you are doing so that all communication is co-ordinated within the team (through team meetings, email, project planning software, etc.)
