St Nicholas Church, North Walsham, Norfolk

St Nicholas, the largest of Norfolk’s renowned “Wool Churches”, seeks to appoint an Organist.

“Seeking to weave faith, hope and love throughout our community”

Fr David Warner, Priest-in-Charge says:

The statement above was part of the appointment profile when I came here and is now a key part of who we seek to be – St Nicholas is the historic parish church of North Walsham, and because of its extraordinary physical dimensions, is a local landmark, and the centre of this historic market town. St Nicholas is a historic landmark but is not a museum – it is a working and praying church, alive to the needs of the people we serve now. Members of our congregations are engaged in charity and social action across the town, as we put our faith into practice.

I believe in the power and importance of good liturgy – using the building to its fullest potential, with sound preaching and a variety of styles of worship, we aim to offer an attractive, engaging and prayerful liturgical experience for all who come here, from
the smallest daily prayer service with a small handful, to the largest civic occasion when folk are standing in the aisles.

Music is central to what we do, and who we are seeing to serve. The quality of music in our liturgy is not easily achieved, but the team we have is energetic and engaged and ready to work hard, pray hard and play hard for God here. Our organ is an instrument much envied, and the choir is returning to wonderful strength and voice after the challenges of the pandemic. Our worship is in the liberal catholic and Book of Common Prayer tradition, with fine ceremonial joining with excellent music to lift the hearts of all involved and give glory to God. We offer a range of concerts and recitals and aim to do more as we work with partners across our community.

We are a close-knit, committed and supportive team, able to share ideas, experiment and work together to achieve high standards – if this sounds like something you could be part of, please apply for this exciting position.
