The Ministry Experience Scheme
Looking to discover your calling?
If you are aged 18 to 30, and are looking for an opportunity to explore what God is calling you to, then take a look at the Diocese of Norwich Ministry Experience Scheme.
The Ministry Experience Scheme is a year out to live and serve in a local community, experience ministry in a parish and discover the life that God is calling you to.
You will spend the year from September to July working in full-time parish ministry, with regular supervision, group support and theological development opportunities. You will live in a shared house, be supported to develop a 'rule of life' for living in a community and receive a weekly living allowance. During the year, there will also be an opportunity to spend two weeks exploring ministry in a different setting.
If you are wondering whether ministry is for you, or seeking to discern a vocation, or feel a sense that God is calling you, the Ministry Experience Scheme provides an opportunity to gain insights into the particular nature of ministry.
Living and working within a parish community you will have the time and space together with the support and resources to help you listen, learn and explore your sense of call, as you journey with God and seek his guidance in your life. You will be part of a growing number of young people exploring God's call within the Church of England.
The Church of England is committed to fostering vocation and supporting young people who are exploring a sense of calling to ministry. The opportunity to experience ministry within parish settings is recognised as an important element in this.
the Ministry Experience Scheme began with four participants in September 2018 - two from within the Diocese of Nortwich, and two from futher afield. We are looking for four more young adults to begin in September 2019.
The Ministry Experience Scheme is currently being hosted in the east of Norwich, and alongside the parish bases, will include opportunities to experience ministry in a range of settings including the prison, cathedral, universities and health care. If you are interested in a particular type of ministry we will support you to find out a suitable setting.
