Wells churches set up telephone call line
Wells Churches Together has set up a call-line for anyone in Wells-next-the-Sea and surrounding villages who needs a friendly voice to talk to during the coronavirus crisis.
The call-line is run by a co-ordinator who then contacts one of the team to ring the caller back. A call can be arranged on a regular basis or just on a one-off basis. This is not a counselling service but just for neighbourly contact down the line. However, referrals for advice can be made on behalf of the caller.
Alison Bowles, one of the organisers, says “We offer a friendly, neighbourly chat for anyone who is fed-up, feeling isolated or lonely. Calls can be set up on a regular basis if wished. It’s not a counselling service, but if other help is requested a referral can be made The calls we’ve received so far have been very worthwhile. The project has appeared in our town magazine, The Quay.”

In common with all other parish churches in the UK, St Nicholas Wells has suspended services and the building is closed, but Rev Brenda Stewart will live-stream a service from the Rectory on Sundays at 11.00 am and Wednesdays at 10.00 am and there will be additional live-streams in Holy Week. Live-streams and recordings of previous services can be found on Youtube.
