Angel Festival at Great Yarmouth Minster
20 November 2023
Great Yarmouth Minster will be filled with Christmas Angels from Friday 8 December for a dazzling Angel Festival.
Local groups and schools have been invited to create angels to be displayed in the church and the creativity is running high!
A Great Yarmouth Arts Project, ‘Reprezent’, will be working with St Nicholas Priory Primary School and other local groups to create a 7m tall ‘Angel of Hope’ which will greet festival goers as they enter the Minster.
This ambitious project has been generously funded by The Diocesan Board of Education and Community Connections Volunteering (part of Great Yarmouth Borough Council). On the opening night, Ben Jay from the Hippodrome Circus will be creating some spectacular light displays to illuminate the festival and, along with the angel exhibition, there will be plenty of activities for young and old alike, served with delicious mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
Churchwarden, Wendy Betts, (pictured) said: “This is our first ever Angel Festival and the excitement has been growing. An angel factory seems to have appeared in the Minster producing a host of angels to fill this huge building ready for opening night. We are really amazed at how the whole community has got on board with this fabulous event and we can’t wait to see people’s reaction as they come into the Minster on opening night!”
The exhibition will run for a week until Friday 15 December. Entry to the festival is free but donations are welcome. Check the Great Yarmouth Minster website or their Facebook page for opening times.
