SUMMARY:A Concert by Norfolk folk rock band\, 'Stone Angel'
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to enjoy the marvellous tapestry of sound woven by the band. Hear for yourself the legacy of five decades of music ranging from long lost mediaeval gems\, modern arrangements of traditional tunes and new compositions – all giving the band an individual and mesmerising identity. \nThey were last with us in 2017 and we’d booked them to return in 2020 BUT ……. !!! \nDuring that long COVID-enforced break\, they produced a new album\, ‘Wake’\, and we’re delighted to welcome them back to Bergh Apton this autumn. \nBetween them\, Ken & Joan Saul\, Andrew Smith\, David Felmingham and Geoff Hurrell offer virtuosity on too many instruments – traditional and modern – to mention them all.\nYou can hear examples of their sound on their website: https://stone-angel.co.uk and maybe gain a flavour of the mists and mysteries of the Norfolk Broads and the lonely marshlands of East Anglia. \nWe recommend advance booking\, which helps us to cater for refreshments but also avoids disappointment if we’re reaching our capacity of 120.

SUMMARY:Admiral Lord Nelson: The Man Behind the Legend (Talk)
DESCRIPTION:Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN will give an entertaining and fascinating talk on Admiral Lord Nelson – our local Norfolk hero! \nEveryone will no doubt know the story of how Admiral Lord Nelson won a famous victory over a combined French and Spanish fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805 – sadly making the ultimate sacrifice for his country that day\, dying of his battle wounds at the age of just 47. But how well do you know the man behind the legend? What made the son of a rural Norfolk vicar go on to become one of this country’s greatest heroes? \nOur talk will explore Nelson’s journey from Burnham Thorpe to his final resting place in St Paul’s Cathedral and his immortal place in the heart of this nation. \nRefreshments will be served after the talk. \nNo entrance fee but donations welcome – proceeds to the Holme Hale Church Restoration Appeal.

SUMMARY:A talk about Admiral Lord Nelson
DESCRIPTION:Napoleon once said that it was Nelson\, above all\, who frustrated his dream of global domination … \nOn Saturday 12th October\, we will be holding an entertaining and fascinating talk on Admiral Lord Nelson – our local Norfolk hero! \nEveryone will no doubt know the story of how Lord Nelson’s inspirational leadership\, grasp of strategy and unconventional tactics brought about a transformational victory over a combined French and Spanish fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 – sadly making the ultimate sacrifice for his country that day\, dying of his battle wounds at the age of just 47. \nBut how well do you know the man behind the legend? What made the son of a rural Norfolk vicar go on to become one of this country’s greatest heroes? \nWe are delighted that we will be joined by Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN\, a Nelson expert and fellow Norfolk-raised naval commander\, who will give an insightful and\, in places\, a personal perspective on the great man\, exploring Nelson’s journey from Burnham Thorpe to his final resting place in St Paul’s Cathedral and his immortal place in the heart of this nation. \nPlease do come along and join us\, we look forward to seeing you there! \nAll donations received on the day will provide much-needed funds for our Church Restoration Appeal

SUMMARY:From scroll to best-selling paperback – how we got our Bible
DESCRIPTION:The adventures behind how we got our Bible (inc. issues of Bible translation & a bit on Wycliffe Bible translators and Bible Society). \nWe will be having another teaching day at ASM on Saturday 12th October 2024. From ancient scrolls to best-selling paperbacks\, the journey of how we received our Bible is a fascinating tale. It encompasses the challenges of Bible translation and touches on the efforts of organizations like the Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Bible Society. Rev. Dr. Sue Woan\, former head of the Norwich Diocesan Ministry Course\, with her gift of bringing such subjects to life\, has led days at ASM before\, on “A romp through the Old Testament”\, “Walking in New Testament Footsteps” and two half-days on the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of John. We are delighted to have her back again. \nThere will be free drinks available from 9.30 until 10.00 when the session proper will start. \nGreen Pastures popup book shop will be there so you can browse through their goodies during the break times and lunch.

SUMMARY:‘Being With’ course
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes our greatest challenge is noticing where God is and has been at work in our lives. \nSt Peter’s is delighted to offer the ‘Being With’ course this year. Established by Revs. Samuel Wells and Sally Hitchiner from St Martin in the Fields\, this course offers a fresh way to explore Christian faith. \nRather than focusing on academic Bible study or unpacking years of doctrine\, the ‘Being With’ course works on the basis that all of us have already had a wealth of experience of God’s presence in our lives. Through topics such as: meaning\, Jesus\, sacrifice\, church and the cross we’ll explore where God moves in our lives and everyday experiences. \nIn this course how you feel is just as important as what you think. It’s about sharing our stories and listening to the stories of others. It doesn’t matter where you are in your journey of faith. From decades of devoted discipleship to those who just have questions\, all are welcome. \nThe course will run at St Peter’s on Tuesday evenings for 10 weeks\, beginning on October 1st at 7:30pm. Refreshments will be available from 7pm. \nIf you would like to join us\, or ask for more information then please get in touch with our office\, by email or phone:\nstpeterschurchsheringham@gmail.com or 01263 820040.

SUMMARY:Renewing Hope in Smaller Churches
DESCRIPTION:Part of a series of regional gatherings\, run by ReSource\, offering a day of spiritual refreshment as we reflect on\, and pray for\, the renewal of smaller churches. \nJoin ReSource at St Peter’s Church\, Cringleford on Saturday 28th September for a day focussed on renewing hope in ‘little\, local\, ordinary’ contexts. This day will be co-hosted by Rob and Cathryn Baker\, led by Garrie and Jill Griffiths\, and Jolyon Trickey\, and is sponsored in part by the Diocese of Norwich.

SUMMARY:Revelations of Divine Love - a two-day reterat with Gail Adams and Ian Adams
DESCRIPTION:Living with faith\, hope and love in the company of Julian of Norwich. \nIn 1373 Julian of Norwich experienced a remarkable series of visions of Christ\, that she would later call Showings or Revelations of Divine Love.\nOver 650 years on we continue to find ourselves nourished\, moved and challenged by Julian’s prayerful reflections on her experience. We sense\nthat Julian is a gift for our times\, and invite you to join us as we explore excerpts from Revelations of Divine Love. \nThis two-day retreat will offer a spacious mix of teaching\, stillness and contemplative prayer\, with space and time to enjoy and pray in the\nJulian cell\, church and garden. Gail and Ian will be offering a simple and deepening practice of contemplative prayer through the retreat. They will\nbe sharing from their life experiences\, and Ian will be sharing from his poems and photographs.
