SUMMARY:The Norwich City of Stories Summer Trail
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, Norwich will transform into a free trail celebrating books\, creativity and the power of imagination. \nLaunching on 18 July and running until 31 August\, the Norwich City of Stories Summer Trail will encourage families\, visitors and residents to uncover clues hidden across the city centre. \nThe trail has been organised by VisitNorwich\, part of Norwich Business Improvement District (BID)\, and Norwich Cathedral is delighted to be the headline partner. \nThe Norwich City of Stories Summer Trail is free to take part in and can be enjoyed at participants’ own pace throughout the school holidays. \nVisitors will be able to pick up a free trail map and visit locations across the city in search of storybooks displayed in shop windows and venues. Each stop will reveal a letter clue\, with visitors challenged to crack the hidden message to be in with the chance of winning a range of prizes. \nCity of Stories Summer Trail maps\, event information and additional activities will be available via the VisitNorwich website. \nCloser to the trail start date\, physical copies of the trail map will be situated at participating venues including Norwich Cathedral and in John Lewis Norwich\, at the Norwich BID office in the Forum on Millennium Plain\, and will be handed out by Norwich City Hosts during the summer vacation. \nCompleted entries can be submitted online using a QR code found on the trail map\, by email\, or via dedicated boxes at Norwich Cathedral and in John Lewis Norwich. Entries for the competition must be received by 4 September 2026.

DESCRIPTION:Music in the Burnhams is launching a new week-long classical music festival from 19–24 July in north-west Norfolk. The event will feature internationally acclaimed musicians performing in local churches including St Mary’s Church in Burnham Market\, All Saints Church in Burnham Thorpe\, and All Saints Church Sutton cum Ulph (Burnham Market)\, with some performances recorded for BBC Radio. \n\nLed by Artistic Director Adrian Bradbury\, the festival celebrates composer Sir Julius Benedict\, aiming to revive interest in his work alongside music by contemporaries such as Beethoven\, Mendelssohn and Liszt. \nThe programme includes: \n\nAn opening choral evensong (19 July) at St Mary’s Church\, Burnham Market\nDaily talks on Benedict’s life (20–23 July)\nLunchtime and evening chamber concerts at All Saints Church\, Burnham Thorpe\nA five-hour “Monster Concert” inspired by Benedict’s original events\nA closing performance by the London Chamber Orchestra (24 July)\n\nThe festival also features renowned soloists\, a resident pianist\, and guest appearances\, alongside a café and themed cocktail bar. SUMMARY:Go with the FLOW
DESCRIPTION:Visitors are invited to enjoy a unique day of worship\, community and family-friendly activities during the FLOW event at How Hill on Sunday 19th July. Organised by the Waterside Benefice\, which includes the churches of Catfield\, Ludham and Potter Heigham\, the event will take place on the main field and in the gardens of How Hill House. FLOW has been created to bring Christian ministry to the Broads\, making church accessible\, engaging and enjoyable for all. \nThe event builds on the success of last year\, when a group from the Waterside Benefice along with Bishop Ian\, the Bishop of Thetford\, travelled around the Broads aboard the historic Wherry Albion\, stopping at various staithes\, holding services and running activities. \nThe day will begin with a Service of Holy Communion at 8.30am\, led by Bishop Ian\, who is again lending his support to the initiative. He will then also lead a Songs of Praise service at 11.00am. There will be a variety of activities to take part in throughout the day\, including crafts\, opportunities for conversation\, music and a treasure hunt. Refreshments will be available\, with tea\, coffee\, homemade cakes and freshly cooked bacon rolls on offer. Bring a chair and your own lunch time picnic to enjoy in the company of others. \nOrganisers hope FLOW will appeal not only to regular churchgoers but also to those who may be curious about faith or simply looking for an enjoyable day out. Whether people come for the crafts\, the conversation\, the music\, or the chance to connect with faith\, there will be something for everyone.

In 2024\, José gave his debut with the English Chamber Orchestra in the Music in Country Churches Festival\, performing Strauss’ Violin Concerto. \nJosé’s orchestral experience spans across renowned orchestras\, including the London Symphony Orchestra\, London Philharmonic Orchestra\, Philharmonia Orchestra\, Royal Northern Sinfonia and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. \nCarmarthenshire-born baritone Owain Rowlands is an Associate Artist with the Welsh National Opera for the 2025/2026 season\, where he has performed and covered roles in productions including Tosca\, Candide\, Blaze of Glory\, The Flying Dutchman\, and others. \nRebecca Selley studied piano and piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music in London\, where she won the John Ireland Prize for Accompanists. SUMMARY:Pilgrimage Walk: From Brokenness to New Life
DESCRIPTION:Join the Aylsham and District Team of Churches on Saturday 8 August 2026 for a pilgrimage walk along the “From Brokenness to New Life” trail from Sheringham to Trimingham. \nStarting with prayer and reflection at St Peter’s Church\, Sheringham at 8.30am\, pilgrims can choose to walk the full route or join for part of the journey. The route visits churches in Beeston Regis\, West Runton\, East Runton\, Cromer\, Overstrand\, Sidestrand and Trimingham\, with prayers offered at each stop for local communities and the Diocese of Norwich’s emerging strategy. \nThe walk is expected to finish in Trimingham at around 3pm. SUMMARY:LECTIO DIVINA - a way of being with scripture and other sacred texts
DESCRIPTION:We host a monthly group Lectio Divina session in the cathedral library\, on the SECOND FRIDAY of every month at 2.30pm. \nLectio Divina is a contemplative way of reading the Bible\, focusing on a short passage and allowing it to speak to us. The passage is read aloud\, and we may share a word or phrase that resonates with us\, but without discussion. It is a traditional Benedictine approach to the scriptures. \nOpen to all\, readings and full outline of the approach provided. SUMMARY:Poetry in Bloom - Flower Festival
DESCRIPTION:The parish church of St Peter & St Paul in Swaffham is hosting another of its acclaimed Flower Festivals over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Fri 28th-Mon 31st). This is a biennial event; and the theme on this occasion is “Poetry in Bloom”. All the arrangements are created by a band of skilful volunteers; and entry is free. Light refreshments will be available; and we hope visitors will also buy a programme for only £2. This is a major fund-raising enterprise for the church\, and w \ne’d love to welcome as many people as possible to see the vibrant displays and celebrate their floral glory and the accompanying poetry. The parish church in Swaffham is located just off the market square.

DESCRIPTION:Open Ears has launched its autumn programme of free online events to help churches become more welcoming and accessible for people affected by hearing loss. \nThe programme includes two one-hour “Introduction to Hearing Loss” Zoom training sessions\, led by author and Open Ears Trustee Emily Owen. These sessions will take place on Monday 7 September (13:00–14:00) and Monday 2 November (19:00–20:00)\, and are designed for church leaders\, volunteers\, pastoral teams\, and anyone passionate about inclusion. \nParticipants will learn why hearing loss awareness matters\, how it affects everyday life\, and simple\, practical steps churches can take to create more inclusive environments. \nIn addition\, a special online event on Thursday 17 September (19:00–20:00) will feature Breeze Translate\, showcasing technology that offers live captioning and multilingual translation to help remove communication barriers in church and community settings. \nWith more than 12 million people in the UK living with hearing loss\, Open Ears aims to equip churches to make small changes that can have a significant impact. \nAll events are free and open to everyone. \nTo find out more or register\, visit: www.openears.org.uk
