SUMMARY:The Norwich Shared Vocations space 2026/27: Onwards and Outwards!
DESCRIPTION:This six-session course\, over six months\, invites you to learn about the ways in which you might be called to go ‘onwards and outwards’ in sharing your Christian faith as a Licensed Lay Minister (sometimes known as Reader)\, ordained minister\, chaplain\, pioneer evangelist\, Authorised Worship Assistant (AWA) or Authorised Pastoral Assistant (APA). \nTogether we will hear stories of how people have heard and responded to the call of God\, go deeper into what the Bible teaches about Christian ministry and explore some of the big questions\, joys and challenges of ministry today. Time in small groups will give you space for sharing thoughts and experiences\, and by the end of the course you will be well prepared to take the next steps\, either to a formal selection process for licensed lay or ordained ministry\, or to consider what part God might be stirring you to play in the life of the Church and in sharing the good news of Jesus in our world today. \nRegister your interest via email to lucy.dallas@dioceseofnorwich.org

SUMMARY:The Building Is The Burden (Lightening The Load)
DESCRIPTION:Many church leaders in low income areas know that their building is more than bricks and mortar – it is a community space for people to come to\, to find peace\, contact\, practical support and God. Our buildings are a key asset. However\, we also know that many were built quickly and cheaply many decades ago\, and now show serious signs of aging\, wear and tear. Yet many congregations do not have the resources for the increasing levels of maintenance\, and the ongoing upkeep issues increasingly weigh leaders down drawing them away from their primary missional calling. \nThe key asset has now become a burden. \nThis conference aims to give church leaders practical advice and support to tackle such problems. Using expertise from the Church of England’s central Housing Project\, and the Church Urban Fund\, the day will be a mix of teaching\, sharing and seminars\, where nuts and bolts questions can be asked of those with the answers. \nOur prayer is that this conference will go some way to freeing church leaders of the burden to do what they have been primarily called to do – share the Gospel and God’s love in their local community. \nTickets are £25 (including lunch)\n \nProvisional Conference Agenda \nThe Building is the Burden \nLightening the Load: Reimagining Church Buildings for Mission and Community \n🕘 09:30 – Arrival\, Registration & Coffee\n🕙 10:00 – Welcome & Opening Prayer\n🕥 10:15 – Opening Keynote: Revd Adam Edwards (Deputy CEO – CUF)\n🕚 10.45 – Wellbeing Under Pressure:\n🕦 11:20 – “Understanding the System: What Help Exists?”: CofE Church Buildings & Cathedrals Team\n🕛 11:45 – “Naming the Reality” – Facilitated small-group discussions\n🕧 12:30 – Lunch\, Networking & Stalls\n🕜 13:15– Workshop Round 1 (40 mins) \n\nAffordable Housing – The Housing Project Team – “Could your church unlock affordable homes while securing its own future? SUMMARY:From Understanding to Action: Creating Change Together in Norwich

How do we turn concern into practical\, collective action that lasts?\n\nJoin Climate Fresk UK and Community Climate Action for a free\, highly participatory afternoon at St Luke’s Church.\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore the science behind climate change\, connect it to the places and communities we care about\, hear what is already happening locally – and begin turning that understanding into practical ideas for action.\n\n📅 Sunday 18 October 2026\n⏰ 2pm–7pm\n📍 Main Hall\, St Luke’s Church\, 61 Aylsham Road\, Norwich\n🎟️ Free to attend\n🥗 Light buffet\, snacks\, tea and coffee provided\n🤝 Delivered by Climate Fresk UK + Community Climate Action\n🌿 Supported by the Diocese of Norwich\n🎟️ Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund

SUMMARY:God\, Time and Stephen Hawking – a talk by The Revd Professor David Wilkinson\, FRAS
DESCRIPTION:In the week that Norwich Cathedral hosts the spectacular sound and light experience Time by Luxmuralis\, join us for a free thought-provoking talk that bridges cutting-edge cosmology with deep philosophical faith. \nIn his landmark book A Brief History of Time\, Professor Stephen Hawking famously suggested that discovering a complete theory of physics would allow us to “know the mind of God”. Yet\, his later work challenged traditional religious frameworks\, arguing that because time began with the Big Bang\, a Creator simply had no time to exist beforehand. \nIn this accessible one-hour talk\, The Revd Professor David Wilkinson\, FRAS breaks down these mind-bending concepts. Armed with the rare perspective of dual doctorates in theoretical astrophysics and systematic theology\, Prof Wilkinson moves beyond the tired “science versus religion” conflict. He will explore how Hawking’s insights into quantum gravity and the multiverse actually open up a much richer\, deeper conversation about the nature of space\, time\, and existence. \nThis talk requires no prior background in science or philosophy. It offers an accessible\, thought-provoking opportunity for the curious\, the scientific\, and the spiritual alike. \nThis talk is free to attend but tickets should be booked in advance.
