SUMMARY:Summer on the Mag
DESCRIPTION:Summer on the Mag\, organised by St Mary Magdalene Church\, will take place on Saturday 13th June from 1pm to 5pm and promises something for all ages. \nVisitors can enjoy family rides and activities\, live music from local performers\, refreshments and a chance to spend time together with neighbours and friends. This year will also see the return of the much-loved animal experience from Pakefield Pastures Mobile Care Farm\, giving families the opportunity to meet a variety of animals\, pet some furry friends and even walk an alpaca. \nThe event is open to everyone and aims to provide an accessible\, welcoming space where local families can enjoy the start of summer together. As part of the day\, visitors will also be invited to bring along a tin or other non-perishable food item for Gorleston Foodbank if they are able to do so\, helping support local people facing hardship. Donations are entirely voluntary\, but organisers hope the festival will be an opportunity not only to celebrate community\, but also to care for neighbours in need. \nEntry to the event is free.

SUMMARY:Film Screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing
DESCRIPTION:The 50-minute film will be followed by structured\, small group discussions on what this means for our community. After that\, from 9:00-9:30pm\, there will be time for more informal discussions\, and for engaging with displays and Norwich City Council’s public consultation on its draft climate action plan. The bars in The Halls will be open for drinks and snacks. This is a free\, ticketed event\, and tickets can be booked here.  \nThe film features footage from last November’s National Emergency Briefing which brought together leading UK experts in climate science\, food security\, health\, economics\, national security and nature. It presents a clear\, measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain – and what the evidence says about risks and responses.  \nThe initiative is explicitly non-partisan\, and has support from a wide range of organisations including National Trust\, Church of England\, Exeter University\, the Royal Meteorological Society\, WWF\, National Education Union\, and many more. Its purpose is to support informed democratic discussion and ensure that Parliament and the public share a common understanding of the scale and urgency of the challenge. \nWe would be very pleased if you could attend. This is an opportunity for community building\, to create local resilience in the face of the climate and nature challenges already unfolding.

SUMMARY:LECTIO DIVINA - a way of being with scripture and other sacred texts
DESCRIPTION:We host a monthly group Lectio Divina session in the cathedral library\, on the SECOND FRIDAY of every month at 2.30pm. \nLectio Divina is a contemplative way of reading the Bible\, focusing on a short passage and allowing it to speak to us. The passage is read aloud\, and we may share a word or phrase that resonates with us\, but without discussion. It is a traditional Benedictine approach to the scriptures. \nOpen to all\, readings and full outline of the approach provided. Come along to try it out\, or contact Gudrun at gwarren@cathedral.org.uk if you would like to know more.
