SUMMARY:Homegrown Share and Prayer Event
DESCRIPTION: \nDate: Friday\, January 24\, 2024\nTime: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM\nLocation: St John’s the Evangelist\, Blackfriars Rd\, King’s Lynn PE30 1NT\nRefreshments provided\n\n\nThe Homegrown project aims to paint a clear picture of the situation facing children and young people in West Norfolk\, including who is actively working and able to collaborate to grow this type of work. Join the conversation as we consider what might enable us to work more collaboratively across our borough for children and families.\nAt the end of the 2025 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, Churches Together in King’s Lynn\, the Diocese of Norwich and Imagine Norfolk Together invite local Christians and community leaders to an exciting three-part sharing\, networking and prayer event. This is an opportunity for everyone passionate about seeing children and young people flourish\, to come together to hear about and discuss the current landscape facing young people in our area\, learn about how local churches are currently engaging\, and explore ways to collaborate for greater impact.\nWhy Attend?\nAcross West Norfolk\, there are many local Christians in Churches across the borough\, dedicated to supporting children\, young people and their families in their communities who face daily challenges. However\, these good efforts often occur in isolation\, which can lead to unintentional duplication of resources and burnout. This event aims to begin bridge that gap. By understanding what churches are already doing and identifying key areas for collaboration\, we can maximize our collective impact.\nEvent Outline:\n\n\n4 – 4:45pm- Introductions and Sharing:\nHear responses from local church and community leaders to our recent survey. Learn about current initiatives focused on children and youth\, and the challenges identified by churches and organizations. This sharing will be enriched by sharing key themes emerging from the desk research\, which has compiled data from a number local organisations\, highlighting the pressing issues faced by families in Kings Lynn and West Norfolk.\n\n\n4:45 – 5:15pm – Networking:\nEngage in meaningful conversations with fellow attendees\, including church leaders\, local organizations\, and schools. This networking session is designed to foster connections that can lead to collaborative efforts in addressing community needs.\n\n\n5:20 – 6:00pm – Time of Prayer:\nThose who wish to stay are invited to join Bishop Jane Steen in prayer\, where we will thank God for the good work already being done and seek His guidance for future collaborations. We believe prayer is a powerful force for unity and transformation\, and essential to our work as the Church moving forward together.\n\n\nKey Aims of the Homegrown Project:\n\nAddress Inequality: Create a stronger response to the challenges faced by children and families in our community.\nBetter Stewardship: Enhance the effective use of church resources to support children\, young people\, and families.\nStronger Connections: Build relationships between the Church and local organisations and authorities to influence borough-wide change.\nVisible Faith Expression: Promote a confident and visible Christian presence in West Norfolk.\n\nThis gathering is crucial not only for the churches but also for non-church organizations\, schools\, and community members who share a commitment to the well-being of our young people. Together\, we can map the current landscape of outreach and identify collaborative paths forward.\nGet Involved:\nPlease complete our survey to provide insights into your church’s outreach efforts here Homegrown Survey.\nOr complete it on behalf of your organisation https://bit.ly/homegrown-orgs or school https://bit.ly/homegrown-schools\nFor questions or more information\, contact Vicki Price at vicki.price@dioceseofnorwich.org.\nLet’s come together in unity\, compassion\, and purpose. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Life\, Death and Christian Hope
DESCRIPTION:John Wesley is reported as saying: “Our people know how to die well.” \nThis course may help you to prepare for a Christian death\, but that’s not the only reason! The subjects are fundamental aspects of Christian understanding at the core of what we believe\, giving us confidence to live as Jesus lived. And even if our own death is\, we pray\, a long way off\, most of us encounter people who may be closer or who have lost loved ones and are asking deep questions\, craving a Christian answer. One might even say a “true” Christian answer\, free from some of the doggerel that can inhabit bereavement cards. This year\, for the first time\, we will spend some time thinking theologically and pastorally about suffering and the current hot topic of assisted suicide. \nSo\, the aim of this five-and-a-bit-week learning event is to think about the Christian meaning of the last things. After a few (optional) days to get familiar with the learning website\, the topics are.\n• Death and Resurrection;\n• Judgement and eternal life;\n• The coming of Christ.\n• Suffering and Assisted Dying / Assisted Suicide\n• What about Planet Earth? \nMany people in the diocese have experienced eLearning as courses like this have been running since 2011. Our ‘returners’ will be pleased to know that the format of L\,D and CH is much the same as previous courses. But if you’re unfamiliar with this medium\, be encouraged that you need no more IT skill than being able to send an email and move around a website. There is some teaching material\, and a number of on-line discussions with other learners using ‘forums’ that you can post to and read at any time of day or night. We use questionnaires sometimes\, and the occasional ‘wiki’ for collaborative work. A tutor (in this case Peter Nicholls) actively facilitates the course\, participating in the forums\, asking and answering questions and generally making sure everyone is OK. Course material uses text\, images\, music\, voice and occasionally video. It is presented in digestible chunks\, with opportunities for you to respond as you go along. \nEnd-of-course evaluations have always been very good\, with most people saying they have learnt (and been blessed on their Christian journey) more than they have on comparable face-to-face events. There is a lot of ‘repeat business’ – people coming back for course after course.\nThe time expectation is somewhere in the region of 3 – 4 hours a week\, and you’ll do best if you spread this over three or more visits to the website\, ie a little and often is much better than one long stint of several hours. \nThere will be an optional zoom gathering in the first few days for those who’d like to physically see other learners and have a demonstration of how the learning website works. But Moodle is an intrinsically easy\, intuitive system to use. Most weeks there will be a ‘video café’ where we can compare notes\, ask questions\, or just chew the fat! \nA contribution to expenses of £10 is invited\, but for those in licenced ministry (including AWAs and APAs) this is waived. All should book\, however. \nThis event requires booking. Please book here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/allsaintschurchhethel/1566267
