SUMMARY:LECTIO DIVINA - a way of being with scripture and other sacred texts
DESCRIPTION:We host a monthly group Lectio Divina session in the cathedral library\, on the SECOND FRIDAY of every month at 2.30pm. \nLectio Divina is a contemplative way of reading the Bible\, focusing on a short passage and allowing it to speak to us. The passage is read aloud\, and we may share a word or phrase that resonates with us\, but without discussion. It is a traditional Benedictine approach to the scriptures. \nOpen to all\, readings and full outline of the approach provided. Come along to try it out\, or contact Gudrun at gwarren@cathedral.org.uk if you would like to know more.

SUMMARY:Revelations of Divine Love - a two-day reterat with Gail Adams and Ian Adams
DESCRIPTION:Living with faith\, hope and love in the company of Julian of Norwich. \nIn 1373 Julian of Norwich experienced a remarkable series of visions of Christ\, that she would later call Showings or Revelations of Divine Love.\nOver 650 years on we continue to find ourselves nourished\, moved and challenged by Julian’s prayerful reflections on her experience. We sense\nthat Julian is a gift for our times\, and invite you to join us as we explore excerpts from Revelations of Divine Love. \nThis two-day retreat will offer a spacious mix of teaching\, stillness and contemplative prayer\, with space and time to enjoy and pray in the\nJulian cell\, church and garden. Gail and Ian will be offering a simple and deepening practice of contemplative prayer through the retreat. They will\nbe sharing from their life experiences\, and Ian will be sharing from his poems and photographs.

SUMMARY:NCCL: Monuments in Norwich churches
DESCRIPTION:As is well known\, Norwich is blessed with many medieval churches\, a fine Norman cathedral\, and several other distinctive places of worship such as the Octagon Chapel in Colegate. On this course Professor Christopher Joby discusses some of the many monuments and gravestones housed in these churches and the funerary inscriptions incised on them. A striking feature of these monuments and inscriptions is their diversity. Some depict the deceased recumbent\, whilst others show them kneeling and in one case at least standing. The material from which they are made also varies. Professor Joby pays special attention to funerary inscriptions and explores questions such as who wrote them\, why they wrote them\, and why they are written in different languages. Some are in English or Latin\, whilst others are in both. Monuments to Dutch Strangers are in Dutch\, whilst the Suckling monument in St. Andrew’s has inscriptions in five languages. This promises to be a fascinating morning of discovery about Norwich’s rich collection of tomb monuments. \nLed by Professor Christopher Joby\, for Norwich Centre for Christian Learning (NCCL)
