SUMMARY:ECO FORUM - Changing Perspectives: seeing creation differently

SUMMARY:Churches Count on Nature and Great Big Green Week - free celebrations at Hemblington church
DESCRIPTION:Churches Count on Nature and Great Big Green Week will be celebrated at All Saints Church\, Hemblington between 8th – 16th June. There will be an exhibition in church from Tuesday 11th June highlighting the flora and fauna identified in and around the churchyard. It will also show how the church team is working towards the A Rocha eco-church awards\, concentrating on re-use/recycling and use of sustainable materials\, composting and community engagement. Norfolk Wildlife Trust has organised a walk and discussion about wildflower conservation in churchyards on Wednesday 12th June – see separate entry on the Diocesan website or book via the NWT website. The local Blofield & District Conservation Group BADCOG will be cutting the churchyard towards the end of the week\, to ensure the large variety of wildflowers will be abundant next year. Do come along and enjoy the beauty of the wildflower-filled churchyards\, the interesting architectural features of the church itself (round tower\, huge unique wall painting of the life of St Christopher\, well conserved octagonal font\, rood stairs – plus there is a level access WC) and support our efforts to keep the church building and surrounding areas in a good condition for future generations. Self-serve refreshments are always available. Do visit us any time!

SUMMARY:St Mark's\, Oulton Broad 'Green Day'
DESCRIPTION:We are planning to have fun\, enjoy some cake and a drink\, and hopefully learn a thing or two. \nSt Marks\, Oulton Broad (silver award Eco Church) – are holding a Green Day on Saturday 1 June (10 – 2). Local people and groups from further afield will be highlighting their Green initiatives; from running a hedgehog haven\, nurturing honey bees to raising the issue of coastal flooding. Our local MP\, prospective candidates\, councillors and environmental groups (such as the Christian Climate UK and Use Your Voice Lowestoft) will be in attendance. \nSome issues have very serious implications – but nature’s ability to recover is amazing too. We need to have hope. Indeed there is much joy in recognising and encouraging a healthier environment for us all (nature and mankind alike). Join us to share the journey.

SUMMARY:Making room for swifts
DESCRIPTION:Would summer be the same without swift ‘screaming parties’ as they fly overhead? Surely this is something that would be truly missed if we lost these amazing birds that are now listed as a red data book species. \nThrough this online presentation\, Caroline Spinks\, Norwich Swift Network\, will give us an insight into these birds and talk about how we can help to look after swifts in Norfolk. \nThese activities are being run as part of the Norfolk Churchyard Conservation Scheme which was established in 1981 and is run by Norfolk Wildlife Trust in collaboration with the Diocese of Norwich. These sessions have been designed to support churches wishing to manage their churchyards for both people and wildlife. These activities are FREE. \nBooking essential – through Eventbrite at norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/whats-on \nFor further information visit norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk\nor email churchyards@norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk

SUMMARY:Eco Church Forum – understanding and demystifying food choices
DESCRIPTION:This will be our first in-person Eco Church Forum for anyone on an eco journey in their church community. \nThe aim is to inform\, equip and inspire us to think through and approach the sections of the A Rocha UK Eco Church survey that relate to food choices. We are aware of the complexities of a global food system that ensures that most of those with the least resources (in the UK) resort to cheaper\, ultra-processed food. Recent research highlighted Norfolk as actually having higher than average rates of malnutrition – mostly in our elderly population\, but also in some children. There is a perception\, and a reality that the LOAF principles highlighted in the A Rocha survey would be very hard to achieve by many in these lower-income communities and indeed\, by many of our churches who provide food for their local communities. \nThe chair of our Environment Working Group\, the Revd David Longe will chair a panel discussion with three participants from Norfolk and Suffolk: Peter Emmrich on global food security\, the Revd Leon Collyer on regenerative farming and Anna Sweeting on healthy eating on a budget. \nWe’ll be inviting open discussion and questions. Any practical\, encouraging examples you can bring to the discussion would be helpful! \nYou can now join us online via this Zoom link: https://dioceseofnorwich-org.zoom.us/j/83767657935?pwd=NkZjSmluc2oxOFJlaUIwbXlkcWtlQT09 \n Meeting ID: 837 6765 7935 \nPasscode: 868512 \nWe’ll start with refreshments at 6:30pm to begin the discussion at 7:00pm.
