SUMMARY:Grant Funding Morning
DESCRIPTION:The church building support officers will be holding a grant funding information morning at Diocese House\, Easton on Wednesday 14th October from 10am til 12.30pm. \nThe morning should suit those who haven’t applied for grant funding for church projects before\, or anyone who hasn’t done so for a while and would like a refresher. SUMMARY:The Building Is The Burden (Lightening The Load)
DESCRIPTION:Many church leaders in low income areas know that their building is more than bricks and mortar – it is a community space for people to come to\, to find peace\, contact\, practical support and God. Our buildings are a key asset. However\, we also know that many were built quickly and cheaply many decades ago\, and now show serious signs of aging\, wear and tear. Yet many congregations do not have the resources for the increasing levels of maintenance\, and the ongoing upkeep issues increasingly weigh leaders down drawing them away from their primary missional calling. \nThe key asset has now become a burden. \nThis conference aims to give church leaders practical advice and support to tackle such problems. Using expertise from the Church of England’s central Housing Project\, and the Church Urban Fund\, the day will be a mix of teaching\, sharing and seminars\, where nuts and bolts questions can be asked of those with the answers. \nOur prayer is that this conference will go some way to freeing church leaders of the burden to do what they have been primarily called to do – share the Gospel and God’s love in their local community. \nTickets are £25 (including lunch)\n \nProvisional Conference Agenda \nThe Building is the Burden \nLightening the Load: Reimagining Church Buildings for Mission and Community \n🕘 09:30 – Arrival\, Registration & Coffee\n🕙 10:00 – Welcome & Opening Prayer\n🕥 10:15 – Opening Keynote: Revd Adam Edwards (Deputy CEO – CUF)\n🕚 10.45 – Wellbeing Under Pressure:\n🕦 11:20 – “Understanding the System: What Help Exists?”: CofE Church Buildings & Cathedrals Team\n🕛 11:45 – “Naming the Reality” – Facilitated small-group discussions\n🕧 12:30 – Lunch\, Networking & Stalls\n🕜 13:15– Workshop Round 1 (40 mins) \n\nAffordable Housing – The Housing Project Team – “Could your church unlock affordable homes while securing its own future? SUMMARY:A day of celebration marking the reopening of St Peter’s Church\, Forncett
DESCRIPTION:St Peter’s Church\, Forncett is recognised by many as one of the finest round tower churches in the country. Over 1000 years old\, it has many exceptional features\, including a 15th-century alabaster tomb\, intricately carved pew ends\, a rare ancient wooden staircase and a memorial connected to the Wordsworth family. \nIn 2019 this Grade 1 listed building was put on the Heritage at Risk Register and the Friends of St Peter’s was formed to raise the money necessary to carry out structural repairs and to secure its future for the next 1000 years. In all\, £741\,918 was given by the National Lottery Heritage Fund\, £22\,500 from Partnership Funders\, £18\,000 from Historic England and over £50\,000 was raised by the local people of Forncett. \nThe Project \nAdded to the Heritage at Risk Register in 2019 due to deteriorating roofs and masonry and inadequate drainage\, the church had a major restoration between November 2024 and March 2026. Works included complete re-slating of the nave and chancel roofs\, extensive masonry and flintwork repairs\, replacement of the south aisle roof covering and installation of new drainage systems. \nAs part of the project\, a new film\, ‘A Rook over Forncett’ has been created which will premiere at the celebration on 25 October. The film celebrates the rich history of the Forncetts and looks to a bright future for the village. \nAnother aspect of the project is the three Heritage and Nature Trails that have been created.
